The homeowners wanted more privacy and a stronger sense of enclosure without turning the backyard into a closed-off space.
JM Outdoor Living transformed the simple lawn into a defined outdoor retreat centered around a cedar pergola and decorative privacy panels. The structure creates shade and architectural presence, while the panels provide separation from surrounding views without sacrificing the openness of the landscape.
Natural stone, layered planting, a sculptural water feature, and integrated lighting were then coordinated around the pergola to create a complete outdoor environment rather than a collection of individual improvements.
Privacy was treated as part of the overall design rather than something added after the fact.
The pergola establishes the primary gathering area, while the decorative panels frame views and create a comfortable sense of retreat. Flagstone paths connect the space to the surrounding yard, and the water feature introduces movement and sound that further separates the outdoor living area from its surroundings.
